LIV

I’ve always been a healer, a saver of lives, until the day my life is taken from me. A drunk driver destroyed my life and got away with a slap on the wrist.

Where children used to be happy to see me, they now run from me.

I want him to pay, to suffer just like I’m suffering. I want him dead.

I used to be scared of my neighbor. But since the switch in me is flipped and I’ve become this monster, I’m drawn to him like a moth is drawn to a flame. He’ll burn me - just like the flame will turn the moth into nothing but ashes – and I’m okay with that as long as I get my revenge.

MASON

I deal in death. Killer. Assassin. Mercenary. I go by many names.

I miss the smell of baking that used to come from her apartment. I see the hate festering in her eyes, killing the light that shone so bright. It lit the darkness in me.

I used to be a killer until that car hit her. It woke something in me, a need to save her.

How does a wolf save a lamb without the darkness in him devouring the little light that’s left in her?

*** This is an over the top, insta-love, hot as hell HEA with a twist of kinkiness. HEA are always more satisfying when the characters have to fight for it. If you're looking for a jaw-dropping, panty-melting page turner then jump right in. This is a Standalone Novella with NO cheating. ***

Review
[Janet]
Amazon/Goodreads Rating:  3.5/5
In Patti's Imagination Rating: 5/5

This is a stand alone novella that can easily be read in one sitting.  It is a great story concept and has a happy ending.  A win-win for a romance with a dark edge.
Liv loves her job at the hospital.  She is bringing light to children who are the victims of cancer.  She loves to make them smile.  She makes them feel better even if only for a short time.  She even helps her neighbor, who is struggling, by giving her food.  Her other neighbor is someone she is afraid of and she avoids that creepy feeling door at all costs.  When an accident makes her feel she is no longer a light in the world, she struggles herself with darkness.  The drunk driver, who took away everything that Liv felt identified her, got away with  a slap on the wrist.  She can’t move past wanting him to suffer, causing her to turn toward a darkness.
Mason knows that Liv is afraid of him and he wants to keep it that way.  He doesn’t want her light drawn into his darkness.  He is a killer, so darkness is what he is.  How could Liv understand his darkness when he knows she does so much good?  He kept to himself, well that is until the day he witnesses Liv being hit by that car.  Something changes in him and he knows he needs to save her from her darkness. Why would this woman make him want to keep her light in a world so full of evil?  Will he be able to save her from that darkness when that is all he is?
I am disappointed that this can’t be a five star review as the plot-line was awesome.  I feel this would have been much better as an actual novel and not the quick novella, because there were many unanswered questions I had while reading the story.  Some of the questions are: how does anyone make money to survive and what happens to some of the other characters mentioned to the story? Even with the ending, that the author lets you know, has a HEA , it has missing pieces from beginning to end.  I can’t discuss these missing pieces/questions in the review without spoilers.
I’ve read other of Michelle’s books and for this reader this novella felt very rushed and not what I have come to expect from her writing. I really hope she considers adding more to this story so that it can be that five star rating.  Even with this 3.5 star rating, I will still recommend this book to others, because the story line and concepts are really great and look forward to reading more from this author.
