Blurb:

One accident - a freaking car crash. That’s all it took to send my life into a tailspin. Little did I know that out of the wreckage, everything would fall into place. I would get everything I had ever worked for.
Little did I know that I would find the woman who would cross check my life, flipping everything upside down.
Even though she's melting the ice that surrounds my heart, I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop. Will I ever be able to find my footing or am I destined to stay pinned against the boards?
Note: Cross Checked is the second book in the Shots On Goal Series. It can be read as a standalone, has a happily ever after, and does not have a cliffhanger. There are character crossovers from Hat Trick (book one in the series) which is also a standalone with a HEA and no cliffhanger.

Review:

[Janet}
Amazon/Goodreads Rating:  3.5/5
In Patti's Imagination Rating: 5/10

Cross Checked is not a very long read, a little more than a novella but not full length, which for this reader is where I think the story has gone wrong.  More needed to be added to Brayden and Karla's story.  They are introduced in the first book. Hat Trick.  Brayden’s life was turned upside down after a car accident that injured his sister and killed his mother.  Karla was the nurse who helped take care of Brayden’s sister.  While a lot of this story runs parallel to Hat Trick, I don’t feel that Cross Checked helped complete the story even though book one was told partly in Brayden’s point of view and this was Karla’s thoughts with more of Brayden’s.  The third point of view in this book  was very interesting, but who Brayden really is didn’t come out as much as it did in the prior book.  The story just didn’t have the flow I was expecting and the missing pieces from the other book added to my disappointment.  Karla's point of view was beneficial in my 3.5 star rating.  I loved Karla and her friends and when they have their girls night.

While promoted as a standalone book, with the missing pieces, it could not be read that way as the reader would be at a loss in some important parts.  I wish that the author would add more to this story, so that it would have a better flow and not such a rushed feel.   I’m in love with the series and the characters, so I was excited to have heard that this book was coming out, I was left disappointed..  I also feel as if there is so much more to their story that wasn’t told. Maybe another novella or novel of their lives would bring the series back from 3.5 to 5 stars.
