No one can explain why. Until a mysterious new boy arrives and tells her that everything is not as it seems. She is not what she seems.

Drawn into a war that divides the sky, Bronte is torn between her desire to save the world and her growing connection with Nick. But she will have to let go of reality as she knows it, if she is to accept her role in destiny before the Hunter, who has been tracking her since birth, finds and destroys any chance she has of making the choice which is her birthright to make.

REVIEW:
Gravity
[Flora]

Amazon/Goodreads rating: 4.5/5
In Patti's Imagination rating: 8/10

As I read this book,  my mind was asking so many questions.  What was causing Bronte’s illness that started just after her sixteenth birthday?  Who was the mysterious boy in the hoody with the violet eyes?  Why was reality changing in Bronte’s world?  Was this all in her head?

I think that this was a wonderful book because it touched on the issue of bullying.  Set in a future England Bronte and her family and best friend find themselves dealing with a worldwide calamity. The light of day is becoming increasingly shorter and shorter.  Bronte’s life was filled with trying to be invisible to her bullies and stay healthy enough to avoid being home schooled by her overprotective mom.  She is teased because she is frail and tripped and covered in food, yet going to school is what makes her feel normal.  She sees the new kid and her life is turned upside down.  Nick is mysterious, dressed in black, wearing a hoodie over his face.  She is drawn to him in a very strong way that she can feel in the pit of her stomach.   It is as if she is caught in his gravitational pull and his violet eyes have bewitched her.  Is he a good or bad influence in her life?  Will she ever know his secrets?  Can she fight destiny?

She finds out  that part of her destiny is she is part of a battle and that she alone holds the fate of the world in her hands.  A world where night is taking over the day.  It is a world where birds lay dead in the streets and looters become more and more brazen as the days become shorter and shorter. I survival story, a bullying story, a family secret story, a good versus evil story, but above all, this is a love story.  A romantic wonderful love story.  Is Nick her destiny?  Is it her fate to be with another?  Can she figure out who is really on her side before it is too late?

When her mysterious violet eyed boy reveals he has been watching over her all her life, protecting her and that she is destined to change the outcome of the battle that is causing the very stars to fall from the sky and the Earth to become darker and darker, he becomes this romantic knight in shining armor character, but was he really right for her?   I was not able to predict the outcome of this story and, like Bronte, I wasn’t sure who to believe.  What a way to end the book.  I did not see that coming.  The story is well written. It is filled with great imagery.    I would have liked to have more about these characters revealed or maybe a book from violet eyed, Nick’s point of view.  The story would appeal to girls of a middle school to high school level.  It could be a story used to teach the use of  inference or flashbacks in a story.
